If you haven’t figured it out yet, we at Mojuba love vintage (check out our “Something Old” post below). There is just something so wonderful about incorporating timeless pieces into your wedding. The idea of gathering family heirlooms may seem daunting at first, but there are a number of simple, sophisticated ways to add that “something old” flair to your big day and pay homage to your heritage.
Work with your floral designer to create unique arrangements for your dining tables using family silver pieces such as julip cups, ice buckets or water pitchers, giving every table a unique flair. Your grandmother’s closet is definitely not off limits – dig through granny’s drawers for chic brooches and hat pins that can be used in your bridal bouquet. You could even go as far as making an entire bouquet out of brooches instead of flowers. A company called Fantasy Florals creates custom brooch bouquets using treasured pieces you send to them (see photo at right).
It is often said that a wedding is not just for the couple, but for all of the family involved (and we agree!). By asking family members to lend you cherished family relics you are adding a unique touch to your wedding, while making them feel honored and involved.
So start shopping your relatives’ closets, and happy hunting!
